No by "locked" I meant if I use BTRFS it's not imperative that I use it's built-in RAID abilities.
I can determine which softRAID is best for my needs, & if it's not BTRFS that won't be an issue,...
yeah i hope it gets way more traction, and starts solidfyng much more quickly, t'would be sweet!
Nothing uufnortnately :( Thanks anyway!
Even if it doesn't come out for a while there's apps like clonezilla for those living on the "bleeding edge" :)

@ibuclaw/anyone
Could you please help me with the last few questions in #11 & #12?
Thank-you!
any comments on this? thanks/night.
If I go the softRAID route later, I'm not locked (I assume) into using BTRFS's built-in RAID.
So I guess how good/bad it is (for my requirements) compared to other options is irrelevant for now?

Thank-you for those extra insights,
Do you still prefer other forms of softRAID and LVM for certain usage scenarios, instead of BTRFS?
Good suggestion RE home partition, thank-you!
I've heard btrfs has better qualities for SSD's, is that entirely true?

Hmm thanks, neither sound like "show-stoppers"...
So long as the advantages outweigh the regular minor glitches (assuming they're always minor!)...

Thanks ubuclaw for your detailed feedback,
Not for production, but i still want a reliable htpc/pvr, where content isn't occasionally going to go missing etc.
Can you please elaborate upon "one...
I'm thinking of doing a minimal ubuntu 10.04 install and then gradually adding the components I want...
It is for a HTPC/PVR/et al machine I'm building....

but surely BTRFS is getting pretty solid/stable now?
Not sure sorry.
You can always roll it in yourself.

Alas there's no Q5x/H5x mATX mobo's with SATA6G & USB3.
So it come down to these three:

P7H55D-M EVO $179.3 [definitely can get for this...
Here is the rough outline I have in mind...
Underlined = I've decided on the part, bold = I own it.
1x Intel Core i3-530
1x mATX H57 or Q57 mobo?
2x 2GB DDR3?
1x Asus Xonar Essence ST (PCI)...

I think I'm going with an AIO, but with the FE I outlined as the platform base.
So that means I'll sell most of the parts outlined for my proposed back-end.
This will give me a little cash...
Is i3-530 a viable alternative to GT220 + VDPAU for video decode?
If not what does it lack in comparison to GT220 + VDPAU?
I'm hoping I can mostly get away with it, if not I can always add a...
