+1 on PreviousN's xorg, it solved my freezing on my mini 12 with jaunty
looks like scenario 1 just happened, damn
well before now i had 2 scenarios,
1 - computer freezes, have to pressed power button to bring up shutdown screen then hit cancel to resume working.
2 - computer freezes with mouse still...
i tried the uxa acceleration fix in xorg and it did not work. and it may be too early to confirm, but i removed the line out of xorg so it looks the way it originally did, and i havnt had a freeze...
Hey sorry i didn't clarify that. It's worth noting, animations really suck on this machine with compiz, all i use it for is true transparent term windows, and so i can run avant-window-navigator....
Dude your awesome, i did as described and have the same results. Also i have compiz, i added psb to the whitelist in the compiz bin file. Performance isn't superb, but acceptable. I am running avant...
Do you mean compiz? Metacity is just a window decorator.
it can't really get any easier than install the desktop iso, update, then add the repos and apt-get install drivers.
afiak the success of jaunty installs has been with the i386 desktop installer. With this you do not need to edit xorg to install the system, the vesa mode worked for the installer on my mini12. unr...
My intrepid install would freeze like that. If i pressed the power button for a second it would unfreeze and i would get the "logout restart shutdown" screen, and i would hit cancel and be back in...
hell yea jack, thanks for the info! When i get home from work i will try to upgrade my intrepid to jaunty via update manager then add the jaunty ppa repo's for the video.
Coincidentally yesterday a new kernel wanted to install on my intrepid, so i went for it, and x wouldn't start. I had to revert back. When i get home i will boot the newer kernel again and match my...
what?
I ran hardy lpia then switched to intrepid i386. I havn't noticed any real difference in battery life. What i have noticed is that i dont have to deal with repackaging i386 debs for lpia now, so that...
im not sure how proprietary the video driver / codecs are, but it would be illegal to do even if it were possible, and because of that it would never make it into a distro or package archive, so it...
unfortunately you can not upgrade that way. You have the Dell Belmont ubuntu image, and dell hasn't released an 8.10 version of it yet. They have their own graphics drivers that only work with 8.04....
fyi, rather than create a video group or add an xorg dri subsection, under privelages there is an option to "enable tv capture and 3d acceleration".
I read what he wrote about that, but i was too anxious to wait. Also, i do have compiz working, make sure you add WHITELIST="psb" to compiz and it will start with compiz --replace. Also, i did the...
For anyone attempting the intrepid install, make sure you don't get too anxious and install the 2d/3d drivers with the new source repos without FIRST running apt-get update and upgrade! If you get...
i used an external cd drive to install... also glxinfo reports there is no direct rendering for me even though i installed both the 2d and 3d drivers.
i had the same issue so im doing the i386 iso, i tried the normal desktop iso but as predicted x wouldnt start, i edited xorg.conf added in the lines and was able to start x with startx. i double...
Post 94 and everything after that which walks you through using the psb driver. I havnt gotten to be able to get movie player to not crash (i haven't tried yet), but i can use the 3d screen savers,...
FYI for anyone trying to run compiz for window effects, or AWN for your taskbar. Im running netbook remix on my mini 12, the hardy 8.04 version with all the instructions to use the psb driver. I took...
The kernel and xorg in jaunty is not compatible with the driver in hardy unr. This is why i will be downgrading back to hardy unr.
