ATI Radeon Mobility X1400....help (10.04)

Just installed the new ubuntu 10.04 and I'm loving everything...... except I cant seem to get my graphics card to work!

~$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Radeon Mobility X1400

I tried the drivers from the repos and then I downloaded the one from the ATI site this is what i got

You can't use any of the fglrx drivers -- no matter where you get them from. ATI dropped fglrx support for this card over a year ago.

The only drivers that will work with this card and recent Ubuntu versions are the open source drivers -- and those are installed by default.

You can try to download

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownloa...pe=Linux%20x86

and then install the drivers for package Ubuntu
check --help when installing ...

Tell us if this works because I have this weird wiggling screen problem which i think this may fix BUT just 20 minutes, my wireless in ubu stopped working FSM.

Your card is supported by ATI in the radeon open source driver.

You will need to purge all fglrx from your system for OSS "open source stack" drivers to work correctly.

The cat 9.3 mentioned will only work on 8.04LTS.

There are fresher OSS drivers available, including new G3D.

Sure, but I would like to know a little more about your problem.
The OSS in the last 6 months has chanced very rapidly,and is not as restricted as fglrx.
