    Question laptop battery (myths)

i have been hearing these 2 things about laptop battery usage:

    1. when working on ac power remove your battery.
    2. never charge your battery when it is not fully discharged and (vice versa) always charge an empty battery to the end.

are these really true that they really maximize battery life? i would like to know your opinions

ps: i have 6 Cell Lithium-Ion sony battery on my thinkpad sl500

    Re: laptop battery (myths)

Batteries in general do like to be fully discharged and then fully loaded.
And some batteries may become overcharged if they're in the charger too long.
But I suppose that modern laptopts don't overcharge.
But If you're running on AC power, the laptop doesn't turn of the usage of batteries (They must be in standby to be ready for the AC-cord to be plugged out, right?) and the battery will decharge and charge all the time.
I have no idea what difference it makes in the short run, but eventually it will effect the battery.

I hope that answers your question.
You can probably google it to see what other people have experienced.

Modern Lithium-ion batteries have no memory, so not fully charging or discharging makes no difference. Once a month or so, it is a good idea to discharge it to maybe 10% to reset the capacity meter.

Taking the battery out might reduce the heat it absorbs, depending on the laptop, but that is about all it does.
